How to Add More to a Story

Stories often spark new memories or inspire deeper reflections. With Remento, you have multiple ways to continue building on an existing story when you want to share more details or explore related memories.

Append to a Recording

If you'd like to continue sharing more about a story (for example, a detail you remember after finishing your initial recording), you can add to the existing recording.

Here's how:

  1. Open the story you want to add to.

  2. Choose the recording you wish to append, then select Add to this recording

  3. Confirm who the storyteller is. (This label cannot be changed later.)

  4. Record your new addition and save.

Your new recording will appear in the same story, alongside the original photos and recordings. Please note that the system does not automatically update the written version, so you will need to manually refresh it on your end. To do this, click Edit, then Generate Preview, and finally Save. Once saved, the written story will be updated.

βœ… Note: The system will automatically use the same format as the original recording, whether audio or video.

Automatic Follow-Up Question After Recording

After a storyteller finishes recording a story, Remento will automatically generate a follow-up question based on what they just shared. This question is generated by the system from the recording's content, so it's personalized and relevant to the story.

Storytellers can choose to answer the follow-up question with a new recording or simply skip it. This feature is designed to gently encourage deeper storytelling without any extra effort from hosts or family members.

Ask Follow-Up Questions (Host and Collaborators)

Follow-up questions let hosts or collaborators in the project ask the storyteller questions that might have come up after listening to the recording. These questions appear as new prompts connected to the original story that the storyteller can respond to with a new recording.

Here's how:

  1. Open the story and select Ask follow-up.

  2. Browse the suggested questions or write your own.

  3. Choose one or more questions and tap Next.

  4. Review your selections, then select Add prompts to queue.

The storyteller will see these new prompts the next time they record and can respond to them with a new recording. This recording is associated with the same story and can be accessed under View All on the story page.

βœ… Note: Both the project host and collaborators can add follow-up questions. This makes it easy for everyone involved to contribute to the storytelling process

Frequently Asked Questions

How many recordings can I append to a single story?

There's no limit to how many recordings you can append to a story. Each additional recording becomes part of the same story collection.

Will appended or follow-up recordings appear in the final book?
Yes, all recordings appended to a story will be included in your printed book as part of that story chapter, along with any associated photos

Where will my appended or follow-up recording appear?
Your appended recording will play directly after the original recording, all under the same story title (which is the original question). They'll be presented as one continuous story experience.

Will there be separate transcripts for each recording I append or respond to as a follow-up question?
No, Remento creates a single transcript that captures all recordings tied to a story. This means your original recording and any new recordings will flow together as one written story.
