Record by Phone Call

Remento already makes it easy for storytellers to record their memories, with no apps, downloads, or passwords required.

For storytellers who prefer the familiarity of a phone call, Record by Phone Call gives them another simple way to respond to their weekly prompts.

With Record by Phone Call, Remento calls the storyteller at their scheduled time, reads the prompt aloud, and records their story over the phone. The storyteller simply answers the call, listens to the prompt, and shares their story out loud, just like they might talk to a family member or old friend.

Note: Record by Phone Call is currently available only to customers in the United States.

How to add Record by Phone Call

Record by Phone Call is available as an add-on during checkout, whether you are setting up your own Remento account or purchasing Remento as a gift for someone else. You can also add Record by Phone Call after purchase from your Project Settings.

How Record by Phone Call works

Once Record by Phone Call has been added to a project, Remento will call the storyteller at their scheduled prompt time each week.

Here is how it works:

  1. Remento sends the storyteller their prompt by email and text message 30 minutes before the scheduled call time.

  2. At the scheduled time, Remento calls the storyteller.

  3. The storyteller answers the phone.

  4. Remento reads the prompt aloud.

  5. The storyteller records their story over the phone (up to 30 mins).

  6. When they are finished, they simply hang up.

  7. Remento processes the recording and turns it into a written story, just like any other Remento recording.

Each phone recording session can last up to 30 minutes.

Once the story is ready, the storyteller and host, if applicable, will be notified by email and text message.

Starting a phone call

There are two ways a phone recording session can begin:

  • Remento calls the storyteller: Remento calls the storyteller at their scheduled weekly time. No action is needed. The storyteller simply answers the phone.

  • The storyteller starts the call: The storyteller can also start a phone recording from the link in their email or text prompt. This is helpful if they miss the scheduled call or want to record at a different time.

What happens during the call

When the call begins, Remento briefly explains how the recording session works. Then Remento reads the next prompt aloud. The storyteller can hear the prompt again or continue to the recording.

Before the recording starts, Remento reminds the storyteller that they can respond naturally, record for up to 30 minutes, and hang up when they are done. After a short beep, the recording begins.

The storyteller shares their story. When they are finished, they simply hang up. Remento will automatically save and process the recording.

How to change your call schedule

By default, Remento sends one prompt and places one call per week. To change the days or times you receive phone calls:

  1. Open your Remento project.

  2. Go to Project Settings.

  3. Select Prompt Settings.

  4. Choose the days and times you want to receive prompts and calls.

  5. Save your changes.

Your updated schedule will take effect with your next prompt cycle. Remento will continue to send your prompt by email and text message 30 minutes before the scheduled call time.

How to turn off phone recordings

You can turn off phone recordings at any time from Prompt Settings.

Turning off Record by Phone Call does not cancel your Remento plan. It simply switches your recording method back to your regular email and text prompts.

You can re-enable Record by Phone Call from Prompt Settings at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I stop receiving prompts by email or text message if I sign up?
No. Record by Phone Call is an additional way to record your stories. You will still receive your regular Remento prompts by email and text message.

Can I still record from my tablet or computer?

Yes. You can switch between recording methods at any time. Some storytellers prefer phone calls every week, while others like having the option to record by phone, tablet, computer, or mobile device depending on the prompt.

Will my phone recordings be included in my book?

Yes. Phone recordings are treated just like other Remento recordings. They are transformed into written stories for the final hardcover book. Each story also includes a QR code, so family members can listen to the original audio.

Can I add Record by Phone Call after I have already purchased Remento?

Yes. You can add Record by Phone Call from Project Settings after you have purchased Remento.

What happens if I miss the weekly call?

No worries. You will still receive your prompt by email and text message, and you can start the phone recording yourself from the link in either message. Your prompt will stay in your queue until you record it.

Can I switch back to recording without phone calls?

Yes. You can turn off Record by Phone Call at any time from Prompt Settings. Your account will return to your regular email and text prompt notifications.

I purchased Remento as a gift. Can I set up the phone number for my recipient?

Yes. If your storyteller has not yet claimed their Remento account, you can update their phone number from Storyteller Settings in your Project Settings. Once they claim their account, they will manage their own phone number going forward.

Can I change the day or time Remento calls me?

Yes. You can update your preferred call day and time from Prompt Settings. The change will take effect with your next scheduled call.
